Happened to see ‘Via Darjeeling’ last weekend. It left me with a very poignant thought. About storytelling. Lets take a murder mystery/ thriller.
When a writer develops a story, it exists only in his head, its origin, its twists and turns, and its conclusion. What happens when the author leaves the story open? Gives the audience all the twists and turns and refuses to give the ending? Worse, what if the story is such that it has many plausible endings?
Now different members of the audience could propose several endings, based on their sensibilities, but they will never know what ‘actually’ happened. These days, we are so obsessed with knowing ALL the facts, that it would be an absolute blow. And its not like the real life happenings on which we are okay with some ambiguity. Perhaps it would be a good idea to get out of our conditioning that forces us to accept nothing less than conclusive endings in works of fiction, especially in cinema.

did you like the movie? I was thinking whether to watch it or not. By the way, I went for a pirated CD for Mere Baap pehle Aap and you know what happened? The climax was not there. Yes, After sitting till 2 am on a weekday.

man…tht will so unfulfilling….its nowadays only a movie or a book that has any sort of ending in our life…take that away, u r left with reality…loose ends…damn!…mite as well but a platform ticket and sit in the railway station..

suppose there was a way to make a story un-beginning? especially if they were about time-travel?

kavi: it has… i am very intrigued that a story might die with the author without anyone knowing the end.. theres a cult phenomenon i see in this, a forever unsolved mystery..
tys: exactly on the books and movies… apparently lots of directors have experimented this way..
cherie: what has been tried out is to begin from a parallel angle or somewhere down the timestream eg.flashback.. in any case, most stories are only entering from the middle, because much would have happened before the scope of the story..
