Yayati had 2 wives – the first was Shukra’s daughter Devayani, and the second was Vrishaparva’s daughter Sharmishta. Their sons were Yadu and Puru respectively, from whom descended the Yadavas and Pauravas. Puru’s wife was Kausalya, from whom was born Janamejaya. He conducted three ashwamedhas and earned the title of Vishwajit. He married Anantha and had a son named Prachinvan, who married a Yadavi named Ashmaki.
