Kaarandhama

A holy place near the southern ocean. Agastyatheertha, Saubhadratheertha, Paulomatheertha, Kaarandhamatheertha, Bharadwajatheertha are known as the Panchatheertha in the south. Arjuna visited all of them during his pilgrimage. During that time, sages never visited these places since five devastris – Varga, Saurabheyi, Samichi, Bulbuda, Lata used to live here as crocodiles after being cursed by a sage. Kayavya

A chandala who was born to a kshatriya man and a chandala woman. He became the head of the chandalas and he encouraged his tribe to worship brahmins and love their country as per Mahabharata Shantiparva Chapter 135.

Kamyakavana

A forest in which the Pandavas stayed for a long time during their exile. Many sages meditated there during that time. Vidura met the Pandavas there. Sanjaya then took him back later. The Pandavas met Narada and Markandeya there as per Mahabharata Vanaparva.

Kamboja (2)

Another name for the king Sudakshina. He was present at Draupadi’s swayamwar. His brother was killed by Arjuna as per Mahabharata Karnaparva Chapter 156. In general, all the kings of Kamboja were called Kambojas. A king named Kamboja was its ruler in ancient times. He was gifted a sword by the king Dhundhumara as per Mahabharata Shantiparva Chapter 166 verse 77. The kingdom is believed to have got its name from him.

Kamboja (1)

Located in the north western part of India. The following details are mentioned about in the Mahabharata. As per Sabhaparva Chapter 27 verse 23, it was conquered by Arjuna. The chariot horses belonging to Yudhishtira were from here as per Sabhaparva Chapter 52 verse 5.  As per Vanaparva Chapter 188 verse 36, it will be ruled by lower castes in Kaliyuga. Duryodhana’s armies had Kamboja people as per Udyogaparva Chapter 106 verse 103.

During the time of the Mahabharata, Kamboja was ruled by a valiant king named Sudakshina as per Udyogaparva Chapter 166 verses 1-3. In Bhishma’s garudavyuha, there were manysoldiers from Kamboja as per Mahabharata Bhishmaparva Chapter 56 verse 7. The horses from Kamboja were splendid in appearance and were of the colour of parrots. Nakula’s horses were of this variety as per Dronaparva Chapter 23 verse 7.  Their tail and ears remained still when they ran as per Dronaparva Chapter 36 verse 36.

Kambilya

An ancient town in southern Panchala. It was the capital of Drupada’s kingdom. Shikhandi arrived here after his marriage. Once the king of Dasharna arrived nearby and sent a brahmin messenger to Kambilya. In earlier times, this place was ruled by Brahmadatta as per Mahabharata Udyogaparva.

The daughter of Pridhushrava. She was the wife of the Puruvanshi king Ayutanayi and the mother of Akrodha as per Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 177.
