AÂ knowledgeable brahmin. He was present at Janamejaya’s sarpasatra as per Mahabharata Adiparva Chapter 53 verse 4. Once Bhageerathagave him a lakh of cows with calves as per Mahabharata Anushasanaparva Chapter 138 verse 27.

Kosala (1)
A prosperous kingdom that existed on the banks of the Sarayu river. Its capital was Ayodhya and was built by Manu, father of Ikshvaku. It was 12 yojanas long and 3 yojanas wide. During Dasarath’s time, the city was quite advanced as per Ramayana Balakanda Sarga 5.
According to Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 30, Bhima conquered this kingdom. Sahadeva conquered the southern part of it during his digvijaya as per Mahabharata Sabhaparva Chapter 31 verse 12. Krishna once conquered Kosala as per Mahabharata Dronaparva Chapter 21 verse 15. Abhimanyu killed the king of Kosala in the war at Kurukshetra. Karna once conquered Kosala for Duryodhana as per Mahabharata Karnaparva Chapter 8 verse 19. During the time of the Kurukshetra war, it was ruled by Kshemadarshi as per Mahabharata Shantiparva Chapter 82 verse 6. During Amba’s swayamwar, Bhishma defeated the king of Kosala as per Mahabharata Anushasanaparva Chapter 44 verse 38. Arjuna defeated Kosala during the ashwamedha as per Mahabharata Ashwamedhaparva Chapter 83. Bathing at the Rishabhatheertha in Kosala is equivalent to donating a hundred cows as per Mahabharata Vanaparva Chapter 85 verse 10.
Koshtavan
A mountain, which ruled various other mountains as per Mahabharata Ashwamedhaparva Chapter 43.
