Aarshtishena

A sage. During their exile, the Pandavas visited him as per Mahabharata Vanaparva Chapter 159. His hermitage was between Badaryashrama and the kingdom of Kuber. In the Kritayuga, he meditated in Pridhukatheertha. He gained knowledge of all the vedas. The sage blessed the place and thus anyone who bathes here would earn the same benefits as conducting an ashwamedha, no snakes would inhabit this place, and those who made some more effort could earn much more. After blessing the place, he attained moksha, as per Mahabharata Shalyaparva Chapter 40 verses 3-9.

Aarsha

A kind of marriage as per Agnipurana Chapter 154.

When a father gives away his daughter to a brahmachari without reward, it is called Brahma. When he gives her away to the purohit during a yajna, it is called Daiva. Aarsha is when he gives her away in return for cows. When a father gives his daughter away to any man with his blessings it is Prajaptya. When a man marries a woman without counsel from anyone else it is Gandharva. Asura is when a man buys a woman from her father. Rakshasa is when a man abducts a woman and Paishacha is when a man makes a woman his wife when she is unconscious.

Aryavarta (2)

A king belonging to Vishwakarma’s dynasty.

Antecedents: Vishnu – Brahma – Dharma – Prabhasa – Vishwakarma – Priyavrata – Agnidhra – Nabhi – Rishabha – Aryavarta. Rishabha and Jayanti had twenty children – Bharata, Kushavarta, Ilavarta, Brahmavarta, Aryavarta, Malaya, Ketu, Bhadrasena, Indrasprik, Vidarbha, Keekata, Kavi, Hari, Antariksha, Prabudha, Pippalayana, Avirhotra, Dramida, Chamasa, Karabhajana. Bharata (country) got its name from the first among these sons. His brothers ruled over different parts of the country. Dramida’s kingdom later became known as Dravida.
