One of Surya’s seven horses. The others are Gayatri, Brihati, Jagati, Trishtup, Anushtup, Pankti as per Vishnupurana Ansh 2 Chapter 8.

A place in Kraunchadweepa. The Krauncha mountain is situated near this as per Bhishmaparva Chapter 12 verse 21.

The goddess of dawn. The Rigveda has several hymns devoted to her. She is considered the daughter of the sky, sister of the night and the wife of Surya. Her golden chariot is driven by seven horses.

Usha is another word for night, as Khushti is for day. The time between the two is Sandhya as per Vishnupurana Ansh 2 Chapter 8.

Usha (2)

A sage. Satyaratha, the king of Vidarbha was killed by Salva. Satyaratha’s wives escaped into the jungles and one of them gave birth on the banks of a river. When this queen went into the river, she was devoured by a crocodile. The child was then raised by Usha as per Shivapurana.
